study questions:

Warm-Up. What is your favorite movie or T.V. series that includes court room drama? What was the role of a witness, and why was the witness important? What characteristics made-up a good witness? Would you like to be a witness in a high-profile case? Why or why not?

1. Read verses 6-7. Who had come together, and where were they? Why do you think they asked Jesus about the timing of the Kingdom of Israel (see also Acts 1:3-5, Matthew 19:28-29, Luke 22:28-30)? Do you think you would have asked the same question if you were a disciple at that time? Why or why not?

2. Read verse 8. What will the disciples receive, and when will they receive it? Why is this important (see also John 14:16, 26; 16:7)? What role does Jesus give the disciples? Where will Jesus’ disciples fulfill this role? Are we, living over 2,000 years later, supposed to take-on this same role? Why or why not? How do the locations listed here correspond to locations for us living in Arkansas, U.S.A.?

3. Read verse 9. What happened to Jesus next? Take a few moments to imagine and discuss what this would have looked like. How do you think you would have responded if you were there?

4. Read verses 10-11. What did the disciples experience next? What did the disciples learn about Jesus? Why is this knowledge important for the disciples and for us to know?

So what. At the heart of this passage is the expectation that Christ-followers serve as witnesses. What is the content of our testimony? How can we cultivate credibility as a witness? What should our attitudes be toward our role as a witness? What is one way you can grow in becoming a better witness for Jesus Christ?
