study questions:

1. Read verses 22-24. Where did Jesus go after his time in Jerusalem for the Passover? Who else was there? What were they doing?

2. Read verses 25-30. What were John’s disciples concerned about? How did John respond? How would you summarize John’s message to his disciples? How would you describe John’s attitude? Why do you think he had this attitude?

3. Read verses 31-36. Who is the “he” spoken of in these verses and why do you believe this? List all the different things you learn about Jesus. List what you learn about God the Father. Which of these attributes or characteristics about God encourages you the most? According to these verses how does a person get eternal life? What does “obey the Son” mean here in context?

4. So what? Take a moment to consider verse 30. What is your “gut” response to this verse? Why is it difficult to accomplish this increase and decrease? What is the result in our personal lives when we decrease and Jesus increases? Do you need to grow in this area? How so? How can you specifically go about this growth?
