John 17:1-26
Jesus prays for God’s mission to be completed.
Jesus Prays for Himself to complete His God-given mission. (1-5)
Jesus prays for those who will carry on His mission. (6-26)
Those who will carry on His mission are… (6-11a)
Jesus prays for them…
…to be protected. (11b-16)
…to be sanctified. (17-19)
…to be unified. (20-23)
…to experience Jesus face-to-face in heaven. (24-26)

Note: In this passage we get to see Jesus praying in what is commonly called the High Priestly Prayer. We get to learn directly from Jesus’ example how we should pray.
1. Read verses 1-5. Who does Jesus pray for in these verses? What request(s) does Jesus make? What do you learn about Jesus?
2. Read verses 6-19. Who is Jesus praying for in these verses? Take time to slowly read through this passage (perhaps multiple times) and answer three questions: 1) What requests does Jesus make to those He is praying for? 2) What do you learn about the people Jesus is praying for? 3) What do you learn about Jesus?
3. Read verses 20-26. Who is Jesus praying for in these verses? Make a list of all the things Jesus prays for them.
4. Consider the themes of Jesus prayer. What is the mood or tone of the prayer? What prayer requests did Jesus repeat? What concepts does Jesus mention more than once? What sticks out to you most about this prayer? What is the most common theme or main idea of this prayer?
5. So what? What have you learned or been reminded about Jesus?What have you learned about praying that applies to how you pray?What about this prayer encourages you in your walk with God?
