SERMON NOTES:

John 4:27-42

As Christ-followers we enjoy the privilege of participating in the spiritual harvest.

Sharing about Jesus is a privilege; not a chore. (27-30)

The time for the harvest is now . (31-38)

The harvest can come from unexpected places. (39-42)

study questions:

1. Read verse 27. Why were the disciples marveling that Jesus was talking with the woman (see verses 7-9)? Why do you think they didn’t question Jesus about His conversation with the woman? Have you ever wanted to question God about something in your life? How do you think we should handle the situation when we really want to question God?

2. Read verses 28-35. What was happening while the woman went back into the town? What point is Jesus making with his illustration about the field and the harvest? What does Jesus mean by “the fields are white (ripe) for the harvest”?

3. Read Verses 36-38. What does reaping mean here, and what is being reaped? How does reaping produce “wages” and “fruit for eternal life”? What does it mean to “sow” in these verses? What is our job in the harvest according to these verses? What does this role look like in our average day-to-day life? Are you fulfilling this role? Why or why not?

4. Read verses 39-42. What happened when the woman went back to town telling others about Jesus? Why did they believe Jesus was the “Savior of the world”? Do you ever get excited to tell others about Jesus like this woman? Why or why not?

5. So what? What is one thing that you are taking away from this passage that applies directly to your life? What has challenged you or encouraged you?
