study questions:
For the Next Lesson – Genesis 6:1-8
1. Read verses 1-2. Who are the “sons of God”? Keep the context in mind and consider that Genesis 4 is about the legacy of Cain, and Genesis 5 is about the legacy of Seth. How did the “sons of God” go about choosing and getting a wife? What say did the women have in their marriages, and how many wives do you think the men “took”? What does this teach us about what happens when men are driven by selfishness apart from God?
2. Read verses 3-4. What do you think God is communicating with us in verse 3 considering what we learned about the culture in verses 1-2? Who were the Nephilim (see also Numbers 13:33)? Why do you think verse 4 and this discussion about the Nephilim is included here in this passage?
3. Read verses 5-7. What did God see on earth in verse 5? How did God describe human beings (Notice the specific words God used, and what they communicate)? How did God respond to the wickedness He saw on earth? What was God feeling, and what did God plan to do? What do these verses teach us about God?
4. Read verse 8. Who is introduced this verse, and what do we learn about him? Why do you think this verse is included after 7 verses describing the decline of the human race?
