study questions:
1. Read verses 11:1-2. What can we learn from these verses about how to conduct business in the face of uncertainty? How does this advice directly apply to how you handle your money, time, energy and investments?
2. Read verses 11:3-6. What do verses 11:3-5 teach us about God? How does our understanding and knowledge of God impact the way we live? What does verse 11:6 teach us about how to live in light of both uncertainty and the character of God?
3. Read verses 11:7-10. What do verses 11:7-9 teach us about how to live fulfilling lives? Is it possible to “walk in the ways of your heart” while still considering that “God will bring you into judgement” (vs. 11:9)? Why or why not? How does this work in real life? What do you think verse 11:10 is teaching in regards to stressing over decisions in life?
4. Read verses 12:1-8. In this passage there is one main verb, “remember”, along with a long metaphorical description about old age. Why do you think the Preacher is counseling people to “remember also their creator” before entering old age? Does “remembering” God in one’s youth impact the way one remembers God in old age? How does the Preacher describe old age? Why do you think that the Preacher spends so much time describing old age?
5. So what? Regardless of your current age or stage of life, what can you take away from this passage that applies directly to your life?
